Smiths Medical Launches New Closed Suction System to Prevent Cross-Contamination
CARLSBAD, Calif. -- Smiths Medical, part of the global technology business Smiths Group, will unveil the most recent addition to its line of respiratory products at this year's SCCM 36th Congress in Orlando, Fla., Feb. 17-20, 2007. This new product, the Portex(R) SuctionPro(TM) 72 Closed Suction System, is designed for airway suctioning of critically ill patients and is indicated for up to 72 hours of continuous use. The closed system reduces risk of cross-contamination and the lockable end cap helps prevent
inadvertent suctioning. Additionally, Portex(R) SuctionPro(TM) 72 offers an unobstructed evacuation pathway to make it easier to remove secretions. All Portex(R) SuctionPro(TM) 72 products include a swivel connector to reduce torque to the patient, a Trac-Wedge(TM) to aid in disconnecting the catheter from the patient's endotracheal or tracheostomy tube, and a patient label with day-of-the-week stickers to help monitor length of use. Portex(R) SuctionPro(TM) 72 systems offer value and a time-saving solution for respiratory therapists, nurses, and other care providers.
"At Smiths Medical we make it our mission to devise convenient and cost-efficient products that enable clinicians to achieve desired patient outcomes," said Dr. Jeremy Russell, PhD, director of research and development at Smiths Medical. "The SuctionPro(TM) 72 closed suction system complements the Smiths Medical respiratory product offering and adds versatility to our already extensive device portfolio."
