New Weapon To Diagnose Heart Attacks
Triage Cardiac System to the Rescue
SAN DIEGO, CA-Biosite Diagnostics, Inc. has developed a diagnostic cardiac marker test capable of detecting an acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in about 15 minutes. Called the Triage Cardiac System, it tests creatinine kinase-MB (CK-MB), myoglobin, and troponin I, which are released in the blood during an AMI. The system is a hand-held device that consists of a disposable panel and a results meter. A sample of whole blood or plasma is placed on the Triage Cardiac Panel, which is then inserted into the Triage Meter. The meter measures the concentration of the three cardiac markers and displays their quantitative values on a numerical electronic display. The meter can also print results, store patient records, and comes equipped with a data port to download information.
