New Hand Hygiene Video Offered by NEJM
The New England Journal of Medicine is featuring a 14-minute hand hygiene video as part of its Videos in Clinical Medicine.
In the accompanying article, Longtin et al. note, "Healthcare-associated infections are a threat to patient safety and the most common adverse events resulting from a stay in the hospital. Approximately 5 percent to 10 percent of hospitalized patients in the developed world acquire such infections, and the burden of disease is even higher in developing countries. Proper use of hand hygiene is a critical to the prevention of these infections, but compliance among healthcare workers is most often below 40 percent."
