AORN Foundation Receives $500,000 from Stryker for Perioperative Nurse Education
AORN Foundation, a subsidiary of the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses, (AORN), has received a $500,000 grant from Stryker to support the continuing education of practicing nurses. The awards will be distributed by AORN Foundation as professional development grants for individuals to attend the 2014 AORN Surgical Conference & Expo and OR Executive Summit which will be presented in Chicago, March 30-April 2, 2014.
The AORN Surgical Conference & Expo is the largest education symposium for perioperative nurses in the world and the largest surgical products trade show in the U.S. Presented over four days, the conference gives nurses the opportunity to network with their peers and gain more than 100 contact hours as they learn the latest clinical practice techniques and processes for surgical patient and healthcare worker safety. The OR Executive Summit is an interactive educational event for current perioperative leaders who oversee business and practice initiatives and are seeking more effective ways to succeed in the changing health care environment. It, too, provides credit hours for attendees.
Nurses make a life-long commitment to learning, but it does come at a cost, says Twilla Barlow, executive director of AORN Foundation. The grant from Stryker will help defray the costs of their attending the most educationally significant events of 2014.
Mike Carlin, Strykers senior director of marketing, notes, We are excited to partner with the AORN Foundation to help nurses achieve their professional education goals. At Stryker, we are committed to partnering with healthcare providers to improve the quality of care and enhance patient satisfaction through education.
Grant awards will range between $700 and $3,000. Recipients will be notified by Jan. 15, 2014.
